- HOW DID YOU EXPERIENCE DEMOCRACY?
Children have good self-control from daily routines. Lack of democracy – none during morning time, just assembly, and then children were sitting for too long. We might not have been there during play time.
- HOW DID YOU EXPERIENCE LITERACY?
Lots of books and children read and write in their workbooks. They did activities with weather, days of the week, seasons, animals, colors, and emotions. Don´t need to be working in books all the time for children who are so young, could have had non-book
- WHAT CAUGHT YOUR ATTENTION REGARDING THE TEACHER´S ROLE?
Teacher was directive but very pleasant, interactive, warm with the children. Teacher has to write comments, observations, food, sleep information on student´s journal for every student every day and communicate with parents. Teachers are constantly working; students have to sit so much because the teachers have to have time to write in the journals all day. There are many students in the classroom with only one or two teachers.
- WHAT CAUGHT YOUR ATTENTION REGARDING THE CHILDREN´S ROLE?
The children are well-behaved. Children are responsible for taking notebook and journal home and bringing it to school every day.
- IS THERE A PARENT´S INTERVENTION NEEDED?
- HOW COULD PARENTS BE INVOLVED (OR MORE INVOLVED IF THEY ALREADY ARE)?
Parents interact with the school through the travel book, puppet mascot, and extra activities. Teachers interact with parents through the student´s journals that they take home every day. It might be better if parents could bring the children into the classroom.
